Lingo Scott “Stay”

by Ben-Ari

Another great song from Lingo Scott, “Stay”, really banging that 80’s flavour. It now seems even more appropriate that he’s rocking the ‘Thriller’ tee too. Check out more from Lingo here.

Thriller Tee Tribute

by Ben-Ari

dsc_8085.jpg

This week saw the passing of one of, if not the greatest superstars of all time, Michael Jackson. Like so many people around the world we were all deeply moved and upset by the man’s untimely death, as fans of his songs and as respectful witnesses to the exponential impact he had on music, fashion and culture.

The Thriller tee, part of this season’s Occult Status Spring/Summer collection, was born out of that impact. As kids of the 80s when Jackson was at the height of his fame, albums like Thriller and Bad were premier editions to young and burgeoning record collections. In anticipation of his upcoming London tour dates, it felt like the perfect time to pay homage to one of our childhood heroes.

In the wake of his unexpected passing, Rufus and I caught wind of a tribute Flashmob-moonwalk at Liverpool Street station, and decided to head down with an arm full of Thriller Tees to give away, have a boogie MJ style, and share what turned out to be a fantastic tribute to the King of Pop. Finding our way on to CNN was somewhat of a ‘happy accident’, but I think you’ll agree Jacko’s moves are alive and well in the form of Rufus Exton…

I’m the President…

by Will da beast

pres1b.jpg

The President tee from our new range is out in shops now so it seems timely to post a little background info. Now I’ve never seen that much of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, but our friend Mike aka DJ Beware put me onto this episode during last year’s Obama election fever and this particular phrase seemed like the perfect antidote to the constant political discussions / semi-political t-shirts that were inescapable at the time. Not that I’m uninterested in politics, but I’m just not sure what streetwear has to do with governmental elections. Whatever happened to being happy just matching your kicks with your new limited edition ostrich-scrotum hat, eh? Anyway, luckily we’re in the midst of political turmoil here in the UK at the moment (and in Iran obviously too, if we have any customers over there) so it still looks like we’re being topical with this tee even though Obamania is so last year. Hand-drawn type by the way, in case anybody cares.

A Bit Big An’ Bad

by Ben-Ari

glorias_superdeluxe_london.JPG

We say a fond farewell this week to one of London’s best loved clothing & sneaker stores, Gloria’s.  A favourite among East London natives and out of town sneaker junkies, Gloria’s had long helped establish London, and East London in particular, as a leader among the streetwear style elite. Thanks largely to the work of Pete Yak, who always strove to offer heads an alternative to what most other stores were serving up, Gloria’s found it’s way into the mental road maps of many a roaming Dunk loving urchin. As a kid fresh back from living in DC, where Major was the only source for truly dope kicks, Gloria’s had long offered me a place to go and chill, save up and splash on a new pair of whatever, and stand outside smoking cigerettes pretending to be cool, long before people had Fixed Gears to lean on.

Gloria’s was also one of Second Son’s first stockists, and for that we are all grateful. Anyway, we’re sure there’s going to be a goodbye jumpie at some point, but for now we’re wishing everyone at Gloria’s the best of luck for the future. Nuff said.
