Pop in the Pop up

So yesterday was a busy Monday at the shop. After hearing all about the crew’s weekend break out in the sticks with guns, wildlife, blood thirsty dogs and cameras, Will and I set about doing some work instead of just drinking vitamin drinks (that on a previous day had managed to make me anxious and nearly freak out!).  My phone then rang and who should it be but my man Ian from The Candy Store in Birmingham.

Me and Ian, looking really happy?!

He swung by to see the samples of the new collection, so expect to see the new range in his store very soon. Also looks like we have another little project going on with him and his crew, so stay tuned for more on that!. A couple of hours later and I was working away on my own as Will had just popped out for a caffiene hit and I hear a familiar voice coming down the stairs of the store. I was sat there thinking “I recognise that voice… but why?”, then it hit me. It was the voice of one of the UK’s finest, Jehst:

Now if you don’t know Jehst I STRONGLY recommend picking up all his music. Especially my personal favorite and what I consider to be the best Hip Hop album to come from these shores, “Falling Down”. Will, Jehst and I set the world to rights for so long that Jehst’s mate was calling him asking the same question over and over “Yo, where are you?” haha so he bounced, not before he left us some flyers for the new Sir Smurf Lil’ album that is dropping on YNR Productions very soon so go support that. Its refreshing to meet people who have been in their chosen industry for a while and are still hungry, still grinding and still excited about the future.

Like Ice Cube said “today was a good day”….

LAUNCH PARTAYYYY

We had the launch party for our pop-up shop on Friday night and I’m only just feeling recovered enough to post up the photos, which should give you an idea of how good it was. A huge amount of friends, industry colleagues, customers, hot chicks, stockists, press, family, free-booze-drinkers, ex-girlfriends, next girlfriends, people who love streetwear, people who couldn’t care less about streetwear, ear nibblers, shoe fetishists and Leo the Second Son photo dog all blessed us with their presence. The feedback on the store / clothes / artwork / customs was great, the music was dope (thanks to Luke, Darren and Tom), and the mood in general was brilliant. Big thanks to everyone who came down and made it such a good party - the graffiti a few doors down got followed to the letter:

Sit back and read on, there’s a lot more to come…

Second Son Pop-up Shop launch party

Our temporary pop-up shop launches at Bodhi Gallery in Brick Lane on Saturday 27th Sept (this weekend). To celebrate and drown our sorrows after having to build a shop in a day, we’re throwing a launch party on Friday 26th Sept from 7-11pm. There will be DJs, free beer, hot chicks (we promise) and a specially-made Second Son ‘Yes Juice’ cocktail mixed by the bartenders from Hakkasan. Click the flyer for full details.

Be there or die.

Amsterdaaaaaamn!

At 7:30pm last Saturday evening I experienced one of the greatest moments of my life when I was accused of being an ‘International Party Boy’. We’d just returned from a trip to New York (photos coming soon) where we happened to bump into Sebas from FreshCotton at the Mishka 5th anniversary party, and a week later here we were in Amsterdam for the FreshCotton party. The FC boys were celebrating the launch of their brand-new website and they don’t mess about when it comes to parties. Unfortunately this one didn’t have bikini-clad girls using giant cannons to fire free t-shirts into the crowd like the last one, but it was a certified banger nonetheless…

Enough to make a wigga go craaaaazy

Jay’s mate Mark Jackson from Slam has just put his latest podcast up for download. It’s a recording of his set from the Slam vs Document +1 magazine party, and it’s all mid-90s hip-hop which basically equals consistent bangers unless you’re an R Kelly or Celine Dion fan (wait a second, who isn’t?). It’s got OC on it who memorably once displayed his theological ignorance by claiming he gets “respect due like the Pope in a synagogue”… nice. Get your nod on here.
